Cherry wood is very popular because it is easy to sand and stain, and dries quickly with little shrinkage. This makes it a fantastic wood for furniture making.

Believe it or not, the cherry tree actually belongs to the rose family and its bark has been used to treat bronchitis. Cherry is found primarily on the East Coast and in the Midwestern states of the United States. The heartwood of the cherry tree has a dark red to reddish brown tone that darkens as the wood gets older and endures prolonged exposure to light. The sapwood, on the other hand has a creamy white color. The wood has a straight grain and a smooth texture that feels like satin. It sometimes contains brown flecks and small pockets.
