There are NO chemicals, NO preservatives, food safe along with high environmental standards. Why the higher price? In order to be compliant, the wood is dried in a "natural Kiln", stained with a special finish by hand and all the pieces are solid wood. Our normal backs and drawer bottoms are cabinet grade plywood made here in the USA. They don't use a carbon neutral "resin" to bond the plywood, so we had to build those pieces from solid wood.
